Picture a busy riverbank, caravans loaded, crowds gathering to cross.
Every family, every friend, all of us make our way to the same crossing. No one is left out, and no one stays behind forever.
We all gather at the same crossing, no one ranked above another.
The imagery widens: saath laday, caravans loaded; bheerh ghanee daree-aa-o, great crowds at the riverbank. The great crossing is universal — kings and commoners, everyone gathers at the same shore. This levels all rank; the riverbank makes no distinctions, echoing Guru Nanak's radical equality.
A Question to Sit With
What is something that every single person, no matter who they are, has in common?
