Verse 5 of 9

When the One Lives in the Mind, Fear Melts

ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਕਲੇਸ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
dookh darad kalays binsahi jis basai man maahi.
Pain, suffering and troubles are eradicated, when the Lord abides in the mind.
ਮਿਰਤੁ ਨਰਕੁ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਬਿਖੜੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਨ ਪੋਹੈ ਤਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
mirat narak asthaan bikh-rhay bikh na pohai taahi. ||4||
Death, hell and the most horrible dwelling of sin and corruption cannot even touch such a person. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When the One settles into your mind, aches and worries and troubles begin to melt away.

No darkness, no fear, nothing heavy can reach a heart that is held like that. It stays safe and bright.

When the One lives in your mind, no darkness or fear can reach you.
The deeper layer

Dookh darad kalays binsahi — pain, hurt, and trouble dissolve — for the one in whom the One basai man maahi, dwells in the mind. Death, hell, and the darkest places cannot touch such a person: no darkness or heaviness can reach a heart that is held.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel safe and held, what happens to your worries?
