Sandalwood, aloe, and camphor-paste - the earth does not love them.

But it doesn't mind, if someone digs it up bit by bit, and applies manure and urine to it. ||3||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Sweet perfume or plain dirt, the earth does not love one over the other.
Dig it up, or add what smells bad, and still it holds no complaint.
It simply stays itself, steady and giving, for everyone.
A steady heart treats praise and insult the same.
The earth is even-tempered: praise and insult, sweetness and mess, land on it the same way. It is held up as a picture of a mind that is not thrown off by what people do to it.
A Question to Sit With
Can you stay yourself whether someone praises you or not?
