High and low, bad and good - the comforting canopy of the sky stretches evenly over all.
ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਨ ਕਛੂ ਜਾਨੈ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਅ ਸਮਤ ॥੪॥

It knows nothing of friend and enemy; all beings are alike to it. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The wide sky stretches like a cool canopy over everyone, the great and the small alike.

It knows no friend and no enemy; every living being is the same to it.

True shelter covers everyone, with no one left out.
The deeper layer

Mitar satar na kachhoo jaanai — no friend, no enemy. The sky shelters all without sorting people into mine and not-mine. This is one of the clearest pictures of equal love.

A Question to Sit With

Who might you be leaving out of your canopy?
