Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 82
Verse 12 of 16

Formless, Fearless, and Perfectly Still

ਆਪੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਆਪੇ ਭੋਗੀ ॥
aapay jogee aapay bhogee.
You Yourself are the Yogi, and You Yourself are the enjoyer.
ਆਪੇ ਰਸੀਆ ਪਰਮ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ॥
aapay rasee-aa param sanjogee.
You Yourself are the reveller; You form the supreme Union.
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
aapay vaybaanee nirankaaree nirbha-o taarhee laa-ee hay. ||12||
You Yourself are speechless, formless and fearless, absorbed in the primal ecstasy of deep meditation. ||12||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are the quiet hermit and the one who enjoys the world, both at the very same time.

You are without shape, without fear, resting in a deep and peaceful stillness.

And out of that stillness, everything comes.

A deep, fearless stillness is the ground everything grows out of.
The deeper layer

The One is beyond the old split between the world-renouncer and the world-enjoyer. Nirankaari (formless) and nirbhau (fearless) echo the Mool Mantar, and the primal absorption (taarhee) points to the calm ground from which all things arise.

A Question to Sit With

What is a place or moment where you feel still inside?
