ਆਪੇ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਧਿਆਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੂਰਾ ॥
aapay gi-aan Dhi-aan gur sooraa.
You Yourself are spiritual wisdom, meditation, and the Guru, the Warrior Hero.
ਕਾਲੁ ਜਾਲੁ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
kaal jaal jam johi na saakai saachay si-o liv laa-ee hay. ||4||
The Messenger of Death, and his noose of death, cannot touch one, who is lovingly focused on You, O True Lord. ||4||

You are the moon and the sun, complete and perfect.
You are the wisdom, the stillness, and the Guru, the brave hero who leads from darkness into light.
When my heart is turned toward You in love, even the thought of death loses its shadow, and nothing frightening can reach me there.
A heart resting in love is a place fear cannot reach.
A heart lovingly tuned to the True One is beyond the reach of fear, even the old fear of death and its noose. The Guru is the sooraa, the brave hero, and the battle is won against darkness, inside.
