Verse 14 of 16

Serving the Carefree One, I Lose My Fear of the End

satgur vayparvaahu sirandaa.
The True Guru is the Creator Lord, independent and carefree.
naa jam kaan na chhandaa bandaa.
He does not fear death, and He is not dependent on mortal men.
jo tis sayvay so abhinaasee naa tis kaal santaa-ee hay. ||14||
Whoever serves Him becomes immortal and imperishable, and will not be tortured by death. ||14||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The True Guru, the Creator, is completely carefree, needing nothing from anyone.

The One knows no fear, not even of death.

And whoever draws close to that One comes to share in that fearlessness, so the thought of the end can no longer trouble them.

Closeness to the fearless One makes my own fear of the end grow small.
The deeper layer

Vayparvaahu, carefree, and the One's own fearlessness pass on to whoever draws close. Naa tis kaal santaa-ee: the end no longer troubles such a person.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone whose calm helps you feel calmer too?
