Some wander and roam around, hungry and naked.

Some act in stubbornness and die, but do not know the value of God.

They do not know the difference between good and bad; this is understood only through the practice of the Word of the Shabad. ||13||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Some wander cold and hungry, trying to force their way to peace.
Punishing the body does not, by itself, bring understanding.
Knowing what helps and what harms grows gently through the true Word.
Being hard on myself is not the same as being wise.
Hardship for its own sake is not wisdom. Wandering hungry and forcing one's way leaves the heart without understanding; the Word teaches good from bad.
A Question to Sit With
What is the difference between working hard and just being harsh with yourself?
