Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 86
Verse 12 of 16

Even in Sadness and Sickness, You Are Near

ik sogee ik rog vi-aapay.
Some are sad, and some are afflicted with disease.
jo kichh karay so aapay aapay.
Whatever God does, He does by Himself.
bhagat bhaa-o gur kee mat pooree anhad sabad lakhaa-ee hay. ||12||
Through loving devotion, and the Perfect Teachings of the Guru, the unstruck sound current of the Shabad is realized. ||12||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Some days bring sadness, and some bodies carry illness; this is part of the world.

Whatever unfolds, it is all held within the One.

And through love and the Guru's perfect teaching, I begin to hear the quiet music that was always playing.

Even sadness and sickness are held within the One who is always near.
The deeper layer

Sorrow and illness are part of the world, and all of it is held within the One. Even in hard times, the anahad, the quiet inner music, becomes hearable through love and the Guru's teaching.

A Question to Sit With

What is something kind you can do for a friend who is sad or unwell?
