Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 86
Verse 11 of 16

The Great Giver Is Never Far

vadee vadi-aa-ee vayparvaahay.
Great is the glorious greatness of the independent Lord.
aap upaa-ay daan samaahay.
He Himself created, and gives sustanance to all.
aap da-i-aal door nahee daataa mili-aa sahj rajaa-ee hay. ||11||
The Merciful Lord is not far away; the Great Giver spontaneously unites with Himself, by His Will. ||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

How great is the One who needs nothing and depends on no one.

You made everything, and You feed everything.

You are kind, and You are never far away; the Great Giver draws me close, gently, in Your own good time.

The One who needs nothing is also the One who is always near.
The deeper layer

Divine self-sufficiency is paired with nearness and mercy: the independent One is also the intimate feeder who draws near. Union comes in sahaj, by the One's will and timing.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that is both very big and very close to you at the same time?
