Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 86
Verse 10 of 16

Whoever Puffs Up Is Undone by It

parabh kee gat mit ko-ay na paavai.
No one knows the state and extent of God.
jay ko vadaa kahaa-ay vadaa-ee khaavai.
Whoever calls himself great, will be eaten by his greatness.
There is no lack of gifts of our True Lord and Master. He created all. ||10||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

No one can measure how vast You are.

Anyone who struts around calling himself great is quietly swallowed by that very pride.

You lack nothing, and every good gift comes from You, the Maker of all.

Bragging about being great is the surest way to be undone by it.
The deeper layer

Haumai, ego, eats itself: self-declared greatness collapses under its own weight. Against it stands the great One who needs nothing and gives everything.

A Question to Sit With

Why do you think showing off often backfires?
