Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 86
Verse 3 of 16

The Giving That Never Runs Dry

dayday tot na aavai saachay.
The True Lord gives and gives; His blessings never run short.
lai lai mukar pa-uday kaachay.
The false ones receive, and then deny having received.
mool na boojheh saach na reejheh doojai bharam bhulaa-ee hay. ||3||
They do not understand their origins, they are not pleased with the Truth, and so they wander in duality and doubt. ||3||

In plain words

You give and give, and Your gifts never run low.

Sometimes we take all of it and then forget where it came from.

When I forget my own true source, I feel restless and split, but remembering, I settle again.

The One's giving never runs dry; forgetting where gifts come from is what makes me restless.
The deeper layer

The Giver gives without end, yet people take the gifts and deny where they came from. The false are the forgetful ones, and the cure is remembering.

A Question to Sit With

What is a gift in your life that is easy to take for granted?
