Verse 5 of 16

What Is True Lasts; What Is False Passes

koorhay aavai koorhay jaavai.
The false come, and the false go;
koorhay raatee koorh kamaavai.
imbued with falsehood, they practice only falsehood.
sabad milay say dargeh paiDhay gurmukh surat samaa-ee hay. ||5||
Those who are imbued with the Shabad are robed in honor in the Court of the Lord; the Gurmukhs focus their consciousness on Him. ||5||

In plain words

Whatever is not real comes and goes and leaves nothing behind.

But when I fill up with the true word, I am welcomed with honor.

So I gently turn my attention toward what lasts.

What is real quietly lasts; what is false quietly passes.
The deeper layer

The koorh (unreal) and sach (real) contrast: the unreal is transient, the true word brings lasting honor. The response is simply to turn attention toward the lasting.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing in your life that is real and will last?
