Verse 12 of 17

Trade in What Is True

koorh chhod saachay ka-o Dhaavahu.
Abandon falsehood, and pursue the Truth,
jo ichhahu so-ee fal paavhu.
and you shall obtain the fruits of your desires.
saach vakhar kay vaapaaree virlay lai laahaa sa-udaa keenaa hay. ||12||
Very few are those who trade in the merchandise of Truth. Those who deal in it, obtain the true profit. ||12||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Set down what is false, and run toward what is true — and the fruit your heart wishes for comes to meet you.

Not many choose to deal in the merchandise of Truth.

But those who do walk away with the only profit that lasts. Living true is never a losing trade.

Dealing in what is true is the only trade that always pays.
The deeper layer

Koorh chhod saachay ka-o Dhaavahu — leave falsehood, run toward Truth. Few are the merchants of saach vakhar, the goods of Truth, and they alone earn the lasting profit (laahaa) — Guru Nanak's favourite picture of the honest merchant.

A Question to Sit With

What is one true thing worth more than something flashy but fake?
