Verse 3 of 17

Beyond Reach, Yet the Guru Ferries Me Over

har agam agaahu agaaDh niraalaa.
The Lord is inaccessible, inscrutable, unfathomable and unattached.
har ant na paa-ee-ai gur gopaalaa.
The Lord's limits cannot be found; the Guru is the Lord of the World.
satgur mat taaray taaranhaaraa mayl la-ay rang leenaa hay. ||3||
Through the Teachings of the True Guru, the Lord carries us across to the other side. He unites in His Union those who are colored by His Love. ||3||

In plain words

The One is deeper than any depth, past every edge our minds can find.

No one has ever reached the end of it, and yet it holds the whole world.

Following the Guru's wisdom, I am carried across life's wide water, and the One draws close everyone whose heart is coloured with love.

The One too vast to measure is still near enough to carry you across.
The deeper layer

Agam agaahu agaaDh — unreachable, unfathomable, beyond all depth. The same One is gur gopaalaa, the Guru and Lord of the world, near enough to ferry us over. Those coloured (rang) with love are united.

A Question to Sit With

Can something be both far beyond you and very close at the same time?
