Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The holy one who turns toward the Guru seeks Your shelter.

Grace answers, and carries that heart safely across.

The world can feel like a vast, churning ocean, hot as fire and hard to cross alone — and the True Guru is a sturdy boat that brings us over to the far shore.

The wide ocean is crossed by stepping into the boat.
The deeper layer

Agan paanee saagar at gahraa — the ocean is very deep, its water hot as fire. The True Guru is the boat, and grace (kirpaa) does the carrying, given as a gift.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt safer joining someone rather than facing something alone?
