parayt pinjar meh dookh ghanayray.
The ghost, in the body-cage, suffers all sorts of afflictions.
narak pacheh agi-aan anDhayray.
Those who are blind to spiritual wisdom, putrefy in hell.
Dharam raa-ay kee baakee leejai jin har kaa naam visaaraa hay. ||6||
The Righteous Judge of Dharma collects the balance due on the account, of those who forget the Name of the Lord. ||6||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
When the heart forgets its true home, it can feel shut in and heavy, like a bird in a cage.
Losing sight of the deeper wisdom, everything feels harder than it needs to be.
This is what forgetting feels like. Remember the Naam, and the cage door swings open.
Forgetting feels like a cage; remembering opens the door.
Parayt pinjar meh dookh ghanayray — shut in the body's cage, the forgetful heart suffers a great deal. Agi-aan anDhayray, the darkness of not knowing, makes everything heavier. Remembering the Naam opens the cage.
