Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 91
Verse 12 of 17

Grace, Once Given, Cannot Be Erased

gur kee daat na maytai ko-ee.
No one can erase the Guru's blessings.
jis bakhsay tis taaray so-ee.
The Lord carries across those whom He forgives.
janam maran dukh nayrh na aavai man so parabh apar apaaraa hay. ||12||
The pains of birth and death do not even approach those whose minds are filled with God, the infinite and endless. ||12||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

No one and nothing can rub away the blessing the Guru gives.

The One carries home every heart it gathers up in grace.

And the aches that shadow beginnings and endings never even come near a mind that is full of the One.

A blessing once given can never be rubbed away.
The deeper layer

Gur kee daat (the Guru's gift) cannot be erased (na maytai ko-ee). Those the One forgives are carried across, and janam maran dukh (the pains of birth and death) never come near a mind full of the boundless One.

A Question to Sit With

What is a kindness you were given that you will never forget?
