gur tay bhoolay aavhu jaavhu.
Those who forget the Guru come and go in reincarnation.
janam marahu fun paap kamaavahu.
They are born, only to die again, and continue committing sins.
saakat moorh achayt na cheeteh dukh laagai taa raam pukaaraa hay. ||13||
The unconscious, foolish, faithless cynic does not remember the Lord; but when he is stricken with pain, then he cries out for the Lord. ||13||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
When we forget the Guru, we drift and circle without ever settling.
Caught up in only ourselves, it is easy to keep missing the point.
Yet even a forgetful heart, when it hurts, cries out for the One. That cry is the beginning of the way back.
Even a forgetful heart, when it hurts, turns toward home.
When dukh (pain) strikes, even the forgetful one cries out for the One. That cry holds hope: in hard moments the heart turns home, and that turning is the start of return.
A Question to Sit With
When something goes wrong, who or what does your heart reach for first?
