So serve the Guru, forever, day and night; He is the Destroyer of pain - He is with you as your companion. ||13||

The Guru gently teaches the Sikhs who wander off.
If they lose the path, the Guru patiently sets them back on the right road.
So serve the Guru, day and night — the Guru breaks pain and walks beside you as a steady companion.
When you wander off, the patient Guru gently sets you right again.
The Guru teaches the wandering sikh and, when they go astray (ujharh jaaday), puts them back on the path (maarag paa-ay). Patience is the keynote — the dukh bhanjan, the breaker of pain, walks beside the wanderer and never gives up.
