chaar nadee agnee asraalaa.
There are four horrible rivers of fire.
ko-ee gurmukh boojhai sabad niraalaa.
How rare is that Gurmukh who understands this, and through the Word of the Shabad, remains unattached.
saakat durmat doobeh daajheh gur raakhay har liv raataa hay. ||5||
The faithless cynics are drowned and burnt through their evil-mindedness. The Guru saves those who are imbued with the Love of the Lord. ||5||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Inside us run strong currents — the fierce pulls of wanting, anger, greed, and clinging.
Rare is the one who understands them and, resting in the Word, stays calm and unswept.
When these currents run wild, they can overwhelm a heart; but the Guru keeps steady all who are filled with love, and carries them safely through.
Strong currents run inside us, and the Guru carries the loving heart through.
Chaar nadee agnee asraalaa — four fierce rivers of fire, the strong inner currents of the passions. Rare is the gurmukh who understands them through the Word, and the Guru keeps safe all who are filled with love for the One.
