Verse 7 of 16

Every Birth Is a Gift to Treasure

janmay ka-o vaajeh vaaDhaa-ay.
At birth, the congratulations pour in;
sohilrhay agi-aanee gaa-ay.
the ignorant sing songs of joy.
jo janmai tis sarpar marnaa kirat pa-i-aa sir saahaa hay. ||7||
Whoever is born, is sure to die, according to the destiny of past deeds inscribed upon his head by the Sovereign Lord King. ||7||

In plain words

When a baby is born, happiness pours in and everyone celebrates — and rightly so.

We sing and rejoice at each new life.

Every life that begins is also, one day, sure to complete its journey. That is exactly why each precious day is a gift worth treasuring, held all the while in the One's care.

Because life is a journey with an end, each day is a gift to treasure.
The deeper layer

Jo janmai tis sarpar marnaa — whoever is born will surely die. Birth brings songs of joy (sohilrhay), and because each life is a journey with an end, each day is a precious gift, held throughout in the One's care.

A Question to Sit With

How would today feel different if you treated it as a precious gift?
