Verse 4 of 16

The One Who Plays in Everything

pa-un paanee agnee ik vaasaa.
Within the body of air, water and fire, the One Lord dwells.
aapay keeto khayl tamaasaa.
He Himself stages His wondrous dramas and plays.
baldee jal nivrai kirpaa tay aapay jal niDh paa-idaa. ||4||
By His Grace, water puts out the burning fire; He Himself stores it up in the watery ocean. ||4||

In plain words

Your body is made of air and water and warmth, and inside all of it the One is living.

All of life is a wondrous show that the One is putting on, like a play full of surprises.

When a fire blazes too hot, water can calm it, and it is the same gentle One who holds the cooling water ready.

All of life is one great play, and the One is in every part of it.
The deeper layer

Creation is the One's 'khel tamaasaa', the divine play (leela). Grace is the balancing, cooling force: the same One who kindles is the One who calms.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt something cool and calm you right when you needed it?
