Verse 10 of 16

When the Music Sounds, Fear Runs

anhad vaajai bharam bha-o bhaajai.
When the unstruck sound current resounds, doubt and fear run away.
sagal bi-aap rahi-aa parabh chhaajai.
God is all-pervading, giving shade to all.
sabh tayree too gurmukh jaataa dar sohai gun gaa-idaa. ||10||
All belong to You; to the Gurmukhs, You are known. Singing Your Praises, they look beautiful in Your Court. ||10||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When that inner music sounds, doubt and fear pack up and run away.

The One spreads over everyone like cool shade over a hot field.

Everything belongs to the One, and those who sing with love shine beautifully in that presence.

Where wonder fills you, fear cannot stay.
The deeper layer

'Bharam bha-o bhaajai': when the unstruck music is heard, doubt and fear flee. The One shelters all like shade, and is 'known to the Gurmukh', the one who faces the Guru.

A Question to Sit With

When has wonder or awe made a fear feel smaller?
