Verse 3 of 16

Beyond Even the Gods

eesar barahmaa dayvee dayvaa.
Shiva, Brahma, gods and goddesses,
indar tapay mun tayree sayvaa.
Indra, ascetics and silent sages serve You.
jatee satee kaytay banvaasee ant na ko-ee paa-idaa. ||3||
Celibates, givers of charity and the many forest-dwellers have not found the Lord's limits. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The great beings people have told stories about for ages, the mightiest of the gods and the wisest sages, all turn toward the One.

Those who give everything away, and those who go off to live in the forest to seek, even they never reach the end of the One.

The One is bigger than anything anyone has ever imagined.

No one has ever reached the far edge of the One.
The deeper layer

Shiva, Brahma, Indra and the great sages appear here with respect, with no ranking among traditions. The One is beyond all measure: even the mightiest figures of the old stories cannot find its far edge.

A Question to Sit With

What is something so big and beautiful you can hardly take it all in?
