Verse 12 of 16

The One Was Its Own Everything

bhaa-o na bhagtee naa siv saktee.
There was no love or devotion, no Shiva or Shakti - no energy or matter.
saajan meet bind nahee raktee.
There were no friends or companions, no semen or blood.
aapay saahu aapay vanjaaraa saachay ayho bhaa-idaa. ||12||
He Himself is the banker, and He Himself is the merchant. Such is the Pleasure of the Will of the True Lord. ||12||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There was no worship yet, and no matter and energy pulling at each other.

There were no friends and no companions, and no bodies had been formed at all.

The One was its own keeper and its own trader; the One was simply everything, all by itself, and that was its joy.

The One needed nothing outside itself.
The deeper layer

'Bind nahee raktee': no seed and no blood, so no bodies had been formed yet. 'Aapay saahu aapay vanjaaraa': the One was both the banker and the merchant, needing nothing outside itself.

A Question to Sit With
