Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 96
Verse 9 of 16

Not Even the Great Teachers Yet

nind bind nahee jee-o na jindo.
There was no slander, no seed, no soul and no life.
naa tad gorakh naa maachhindo.
There was no Gorakh and no Maachhindra.
naa tad gi-aan Dhi-aan kul opat naa ko ganat ganaa-idaa. ||9||
There was no spiritual wisdom or meditation, no ancestry or creation, no reckoning of accounts. ||9||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There were no unkind words, no beginnings of life at all.

Even the famous teachers people still remember had not yet come.

There was no knowledge and no meditation, no family lines, no counting up of anyone's deeds.

Even the greatest teachers came after the One.
The deeper layer

Gorakh and Machhindra, the revered founding teachers of the Nath yogis, are named respectfully and listed as not-yet-existing. Even the greatest human teachers came after the One.

A Question to Sit With

Who is a teacher you are grateful for?
