Maaroo, First Mehl:
ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥
aapay aap upaa-ay niraalaa.
He Himself created the creation, remaining unattached.
ਸਾਚਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਕੀਓ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
saachaa thaan kee-o da-i-aalaa.
The Merciful Lord has established His True Home.
ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਕਾ ਬੰਧਨੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਰਚਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
pa-un paanee agnee kaa banDhan kaa-i-aa kot rachaa-idaa. ||1||
Binding together air, water and fire, He created the fortress of the body. ||1||

The One made everything and stayed free and calm above it all.
The kind One set up a true home for itself.
Then, tying together air and water and warmth, the One built the fortress of your body.
Your body is a fortress the One built on purpose.
'Kaaya kot rachaaidaa': the body is a fortress, built by binding the elements. Seen this way, the body is a dwelling that was made with care.
