Even the Great Powers Rose From Stillness

ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸੁ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
sunnahu barahmaa bisan mahays upaa-ay.
From this Primal Void, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva issued forth.
ਸੁੰਨੇ ਵਰਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
sunnay vartay jug sabaa-ay.
This Primal Void is pervasive throughout all the ages.

That humble being who contemplates this state is perfect; meeting with him, doubt is dispelled. ||3||

In plain words

Out of the stillness rose the great powers of the old stories.

That same stillness runs through every age, from the very first to now.

Whoever quietly understands this is a whole and steady person, and meeting them clears away your doubts.

Even the mightiest powers rose from the One's stillness.
The deeper layer

Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva rise from 'sunn', and so stand beneath the One. One who contemplates this state becomes 'pooraa', whole; meeting such a person dispels doubt.

A Question to Sit With

What steadies you when you feel unsure?
