You Take Care Of Me Anyway

ਹਮ ਦੀਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਤੁਮ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥

Please bless me with the treasure of the One Name, that I may chant it, day and night. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I am small, foolish and thoughtless, and still You take care of me.

Please be kind: make me a servant of Your servants, so that I may serve You.

Give me Your one treasure, the Naam, so I may speak it day and night.

You do not have to have it all figured out to be cared for.
The deeper layer

Even when you feel small and foolish, the One looks after you, and the heart asks for one treasure, the Naam.

Ham deen moorakh aveechaaree means, "I am small, foolish and thoughtless." That is not putting yourself down. It is being honest, like a little kid saying, "I don't know how to do this yet." And still, tum chintaa karahu hamaaree: You take care of me.

Kar daas daasaa kaa means make me a servant of Your servants. In plain words, let me help alongside the people who love You. It is like joining the kitchen crew at a big community meal.

The whole prayer asks for just one thing. Ayk niDhaan, the one treasure, is the Naam. The heart wants to say it ahinis, day and night.

A Question to Sit With

Does someone need to be perfect to deserve love and care? Why or why not?
