Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I meditate on the Lord, the Unseen, Unfathomable and Infinite Creator. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

O my mind, stay lovingly tuned to the Naam.

Through the Guru's Word, I remember the One: the Creator I cannot see, cannot grasp, and who has no end.

Stay tuned to the Naam, like a string tuned to a single note.
The deeper layer

Keep your mind lovingly tuned to the Naam, and the Creator you cannot see comes close.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Man mayray naam raha-o liv laa-ee: "my mind, stay lovingly tuned to the Naam." Liv means steady, loving attention. Think of a guitar string tuned to one clear note. When it is in tune, every song played on it sounds right.

Through the Shabad, the Guru's Word, a person turns toward the Maker. Adisat agochar aprampar kartaa — the Maker who is unseen, beyond our senses, and without end.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you stay focused on one thing when everything pulls at your attention?
