In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

What are you so worried about? What are you thinking over? What plans have you tried?

Tell me: who gives orders to the Lord of the World?

The One holding the universe is holding you too.
The deeper layer

The Lord of the World holds everything and answers to no one, so your worries can rest.

The shabad opens with the short blessing line that names the One Creator. Then ki-aa too socheh means, "What are you thinking about so much?" The verse asks three questions: what worry, what thought, what plan. Together they loosen a mistaken idea. We think our worrying holds the world together. It does not.

Jih gopaal sahaa-ay means someone who has the Lord of the world as helper. Gopaal is a name for the One who looks after all creation. Who could ever give orders to that One? No one. Life is already held in good hands.

It is like a kid lying awake worrying about the house, while Mom and Dad have already locked the doors. The cure for worry is trust, not more effort.

A Question to Sit With

What worry could you set down if you trusted it was already being cared for?
