The One Who Never Leaves

ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਭਏ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਹਮਰੇ ਪੂਰੇ ॥

My friends and companions are in ecstasy; the Guru has completed all my projects.

In plain words

My friends and companions are full of joy. The Guru has finished all my tasks.

Nanak says: I have met my Husband, the Giver of peace. The One will never leave me and go away.

The peace you find in the One doesn't pack up and leave.
The deeper layer

Once you meet the Giver of peace, the One stays and never goes away.

Sakhee sahaylee bha-ay anandaa means my friends and companions are full of joy. Gur kaaraj hamray pooray: the Guru has finished all my tasks. Once trust is in place, life's knots come loose, as if someone bigger is helping. It is like a tangled necklace finally coming undone because someone patient held the other end.

Kaho naanak var mili-aa sukh-daata means Nanak says, "I have met my Beloved, the Giver of peace." Chhod na jaa-ee dooray: the One will never leave and go far away. That is the deepest comfort in this whole homecoming. The Beloved, once found, stays.

A Question to Sit With

What does it mean to you to know someone will never leave you?
