Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In the company of the saints, the One has come into my mind. By their grace, I have woken up.

Hearing the teachings, my mind has become clean and clear. Colored with the One's love, I sing the One's praises.

The company you keep can wake up the best in you.
The deeper layer

Time with the saints brings the One into your mind and wakes you up.

Un kai sang mohi parabh chit aavai: in their company, the One comes into my mind. Being with the saints like this is the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Sant parsaad mohi jaagee: by the saints' grace, I have woken up. Waking is something received, the way you catch a laugh from friends.

Sun updays bha-ay man nirmal: hearing the teaching, the mind becomes clean. Deep listening is what Japji Sahib calls Suniai. Gun gaa-ay rang raangee: colored with love, I sing the praises. The order runs company, then waking, then a clear mind, then love, then song.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the people who bring out the clearest, kindest version of you?
