In plain words

O mother, the cruel ones have died from the poison they took themselves.

The One to whom all living beings belong has kept us safe. My Lord has shown kindness.

You are watched over more closely and kindly than you know.
The deeper layer

The One to whom every living being belongs keeps us safe, and harm turns back on itself.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

Dusat mu-ay bikh khaa-ee ree maa-ee: "O mother, the cruel ones died from the poison they took." It is a stark picture. The harm they meant for others came back on themselves. It never reached the one who was sheltered.

Jis kay jee-a tin hee rakh leenay: the One, to whom all living beings belong, has saved us. Protection flows from that closeness. Every creature is the One's own, the way every child in a family belongs to the parents.

Mayray parabh ka-o kirpaa aa-ee: my Lord showed kirpaa, grace. It is given freely. It is not a prize we earn.

If someone is being unkind to you or hurting you, that is never something you have to accept. Telling a grown-up you trust is always the right thing to do.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt protected, even without knowing exactly how?
