God, my Help and Support, is always with me. He shall never leave; I see Him everywhere. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Inner-knower, who knows every heart, lives in everyone. So why should I be afraid, brothers and sisters?

The One, my helper and support, is always with me and never leaves. I see the One everywhere.

When you know the One is always with you, fear loses most of its grip.
The deeper layer

When we know the One is always with us, fear loses its grip.

Antarjaamee sabh meh vartai: the antarjaamee, the Inner-knower who knows every heart, lives in everyone. So, bha-o kaisaa bhaa-ee: why be afraid, brothers and sisters?

This courage is the peace of knowing the One is here and stays. The Mool Mantar, the opening lines of Gurbani, calls the One nirbhau, free of fear.

Sang sahaa-ee chhod na jaa-ee: my helper is always with me and never goes away. Picture a small child in a dark hallway, holding a parent's hand. The hallway is just as dark, but the fear is gone.

The verse ends: I see the One in every place. Fear feeds on feeling alone. Seeing the One everywhere takes that loneliness away.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your fear shrink when you're scared?
