Bathing In The Dust Of The Path

ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
gur kay charan vitahu bal jaa-o.
I am a sacrifice to the Guru's Feet.
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਉ ॥
gur kay gun an-din nit gaa-o.
Night and day, I continually sing the Glorious Praises of the Guru.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਧੂੜਿ ਕਰਉ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
gur kee Dhoorh kara-o isnaan.
I take my cleansing bath in the dust of the Guru's Feet.
ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
saachee dargeh paa-ee-ai maan. ||2||
I am honored in the True Court of the Lord. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I give my whole self to the Guru's feet.

Day and night, every day, I sing the Guru's goodness.

I wash myself in the dust of the Guru's feet.

Then I am welcomed with honor in the True Court.

Humility washes you clean enough to be welcomed.
The deeper layer

Humble love for the Guru washes you clean and brings you honor in the True Court.

Gur kay charan vitahu bal jaa-o: I give myself up to the Guru's feet, out of love. An-din nit gaa-o: night and day I sing. Gur kee dhoorh, the dust of the Guru's feet, is humility. The lowest thing, dust, becomes the cleanest bath. Saachee dargeh paa-ee-ai maan: honor is found in the True Court, the place where everything is seen as it is.

A Question to Sit With

When has staying humble made you feel bigger inside?
