Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O my mind, calling "Guru, Guru," I find peace that lasts forever.

Through the Guru's teaching, the One comes to live in my heart. With every breath and every bite of food, I remember my Master.

Remembering can ride along on every breath.
The deeper layer

Keep calling on the Guru, and lasting peace settles in as the One comes to live in your heart.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Gur gur karat: calling "Guru, Guru." Sadaa sukh is peace that lasts. Gur updays is the Guru's teaching, and through it har hirdai vasi-o, the One comes to live in the heart. Saas giraas means with every breath and every mouthful. Remembering can ride along with the most ordinary things you do all day.

A Question to Sit With

What is one everyday thing — eating, walking — where you could quietly remember what matters?
