There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.
The one who faces the Guru sees the One spread out through everything.
The one who faces the Guru crosses over the wide world of the three moods, the ways everything changes.
The one who faces the Guru thinks deeply about the sacred sound and the old holy books.
Without the perfect Guru, it is pitch dark.
When you face the Guru, you see the One spread through everything; without the Guru, you are in the dark.
Guru Arjan's four-verse shabads in Malaar's second house open with ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ. A gurmukh is someone who faces the Guru and lets the teaching lead. Barahm pasaar is the One spread out as all creation. Trai gunee-aa are the three moods (gunas) that weave the changing world: restlessness, heaviness, and calm. Naad bayd are the sacred sound and the Vedas, the old holy books of India. Ghor andhaar is pitch darkness, like a room with the lights off. The Guru is the one who switches the light on.
Who is someone who helps you see things you could not see on your own?
