In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Pleasing the Guru, I have fallen in love with my kind, dear Beloved.

I have put on all my finest things, and I have let go of every wrong way.

My running mind has become steady and still.

Love can steady a restless heart.
The deeper layer

Love for the kind Beloved, found through the Guru, steadies a running mind.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. It opens a Partaal, a shabad sung to a shifting rhythm. The soul is pictured as a bride putting on her finest things (seengaar) for the Beloved, a picture Gurbani uses often for the heart getting ready to meet the One. Tajio ree sagal bikaar: she has let go of every wrong way. Dhaavto asthir thee-aa: the mind that was running here and there becomes still. Love settles what effort alone could not.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you love so much that being near it makes you calm?
