Please, carry Nanak across the terrible, deep dark pit of the world to the other side. ||3||8||30||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The world is like a deep, dark, frightening well, where it is hard to see the way.

Nanak says: please carry me across, to the other side.

Even from the darkest-feeling place, there is a hand reaching to carry you across.
The deeper layer

Even from the darkest place, a hand reaches down to lift us out.

AnDh koop mahaa bha-i-aan: a very frightening, deep, dark koop, a well or pit. The world can feel like that sometimes, a place where it is hard to see the way.

Naanak paar utaar: carry Nanak across to the far shore. The prayer does not end in fear. It ends in trust.

Think of someone helping you out of a deep pool. They reach down, take your hand and pull you up into the sunlight. That is the picture here: being lifted, hand in hand, into the light.

A Question to Sit With

Who reaches for you when you feel stuck in a dark place?
