In plain words

The Guru's wisdom is a charm against poison. Meditating on the Guru's Word, the Guru's teaching burns the poison of wrong wanting away.

Mind and body become cool and calm, and Truth is found, through wonderful, one-of-a-kind devotion to the One.

The Word first burns off what harms, then cools you like rain.
The deeper layer

The Guru's wisdom burns away what poisons you, and then cools you like rain.

Gaarurh, a charm against snake poison, is the Guru's gi-aan, wisdom. Wisdom and meditation on the Word burn away vice; then comes seetal, the cooling — Malaar's rain falling on a heart scorched by ego. The fire-and-water motif runs through this whole shabad: what harms is burned off, and the heart is then cooled like earth after rain.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your mind feel cool and calm after a hard, hot day?
