In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

The earth bends low under the weight of the water, under the high mountains and the caves far below.

When I think deeply on the Guru's Word, the oceans grow calm. The way to freedom opens when ego (haumai — the feeling of being a separate self) is overcome.

The way forward opens the moment the ego quiets down.
The deeper layer

The Guru's Word can calm even an ocean, and the way to freedom opens when ego steps aside.

The verse begins with huge pictures: the earth bowed under the weight of water, high mountains, caves deep below. Saagar seetal — the ocean grows cool and calm — through gur sabad veechaar, thinking deeply on the Guru's Word. There are oceans inside you too, waves of worry and anger. Maarag muktaa haumai maar — the path to freedom, mukti, opens when ego is overcome.

A Question to Sit With

What calms the stormy ocean inside you when you're upset?
