Sikhism·Raag Malaar·Shabad 64
Verse 11 of 11

Beyond Anything I Could Say

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧੦॥੩॥
kaho naanak tujh tay man maani-aa keemat kahan na jaa-ee. ||10||3||
Says Nanak, through You, O Lord, my mind is pleased and appeased; I cannot express Your worth. ||10||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Nanak says: through You, my mind is pleased and at peace.

I cannot put Your worth into words.

The best things are felt far beyond what any words can measure.
The deeper layer

A mind that rests in the One is content, and the One's worth is beyond all words.

Man maani-aa means the mind is pleased and settled, like a child who has stopped fussing and gone quiet in someone's arms. Keemat kahan na jaa-ee — Your worth cannot be told. The shabad ends in a fullness that words cannot hold.

A Question to Sit With

What is something so good that you can't quite find words for it?
