In plain words

The bride who turns toward the Guru is beautifully dressed.

Through the Word, she keeps her Husband, the Beloved, close in her heart.

She comes to know the One, and she quiets her ego (haumai — the feeling of being a separate self).

That bride is good and noble.

The deepest beauty comes from the inside out, from a heart that welcomes the One.
The deeper layer

The best beauty is the kind that shines from inside.

Before, we met a bride dressed up for no one. Now we meet a bride who is beautiful through and through. She is gurmukh, a person who turns toward the Guru. Her beauty is not clothes or jewelry. It is good qualities, like kindness and honesty.

Sabday pir raakhi-aa ur dhaar: through the Word, she keeps her Beloved in her heart. She comes to know the One, and she quiets her haumai, her ego, the "me first" feeling. Think of a friend who is fun to be around because they are kind, not because of their shoes. That is the beauty the verse honors.

A Question to Sit With

What makes a person beautiful in a way that has nothing to do with looks?
