In plain words

Saawan, the rainy month, has come, dear friends, and the clouds are pouring down rain.

Nanak says: the happy brides sleep in peace, for they love their Beloved.

When your heart is turned toward home, the rain is pure comfort.
The deeper layer

A heart that loves the One rests easy when the rain comes.

This salok is the bright twin of the one before it, also by Guru Angad. Jalhar barsanhaar: the clouds are full and pouring. Sohaaganee are the brides who live in their Beloved's love. In the soul-bride picture, each of us is the bride and the One is the Beloved. Those who love the One sleep in sukh, peace, when the monsoon breaks.

Think of a child asleep during a storm, safe because a parent is in the next room. The rain on the roof becomes a lullaby.

A Question to Sit With

What lets you sleep easy at night?
