O Nanak, praise that Lord, who reaches out and gives sustenance to all beings and creatures. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In plain words
Through the Guru, the rainbird understands the flow of existence, easily and naturally.
The cloud, full of kindness, bursts and pours down rain in heavy sheets.
The rainbird's crying and calling stop, and peace comes to live in its mind.
Nanak says: praise the One who reaches every living being and gives it food.
When you stop fighting the flow, the rain you were waiting for arrives.
The deeper layer
Understanding the flow of existence ends the rainbird's crying, and the rain of kindness pours down.
A salok of the Third Mehl. Hukam pachhaani-aa, recognizing the Hukam, the flow of existence, answers the longing: the rain the bird cried for finally comes. Goorhee chhahbar, thick drenching rain, is pure plenty. The crying stops, and peace stays.
A Question to Sit With
When did something you were anxiously waiting for finally arrive, and how did the waiting feel afterward?
