In plain words

O rainbird, you do not know what thirst is inside you, or what you can drink to make it go away.

You wander, loving what is second to the One, and the nectar water never comes into your hands.

When the One looks with kindness, you meet the True Guru, easily.

Nanak says: from the True Guru the nectar water is found, and then you stay merged in the One, at ease.

Half of quenching a thirst is finding out what you are thirsty for.
The deeper layer

We often do not know what we are thirsty for, and the One's kind glance brings us to the water that satisfies.

A salok of the Third Mehl. Doojai bhaa-ay bharammi-aa: wandering in love with what is second, chasing stand-ins. Amrit jal, the nectar water, comes through the True Guru when grace arrives, received rather than forced. Sahaj: settled ease.

A Question to Sit With

Next time you feel restless, can you pause and ask what you are reaching for?
