Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In kindness the clouds pour down rain, and joy springs up in people's minds.

I would give my whole self, always, to the One by whose order the clouds rain.

Following the Guru, keep the Word close, and sing the praises of the True One.

Nanak says: those dyed in the Naam are clean and pure, and they merge easily in the True One.

Joy wells up on its own when grace falls; you do not have to manufacture it.
The deeper layer

Rain falls by the One's order and joy springs up; those dyed in the Naam stay clean and merge in the True One.

A salok of the Third Mehl. Ind varsai: the rain falls, and chaa-o, joy, wells up in people. Balihaarai: giving oneself in love to the One whose Hukam sends the rain. Nirmal, pure, is the rain-washed clearness of a heart merged in the Naam.

A Question to Sit With
