Please bless me with the gift of contentment, that I may receive the True Name as my Support. ||19||

In plain words

You are beyond reach and beyond knowing, O Master — True, unseen and endless.

You are the Giver, and all are beggars; You alone are the Giver.

Those who serve You find peace, thinking on the Guru's teaching.

Some, as You please, are in love with Maya, the world's glitter.

Through the Guru's Word, praise the One with love and warmth inside.

Without love there is no devotion; without the True Guru, love does not take hold.

You are the Lord; everyone serves You. This is the prayer of Your humble singer:

please give me the gift of contentment, so I may have the True Naam to lean on.

Everyone is holding out their hands; love is what fills the asking.
The deeper layer

Everyone holds out their hands to the One Giver, and love is what makes devotion.

This is the nineteenth pauri. Too daataa sabh mangtay, You are the Giver and all are beggars: king and pauper alike stand with open hands. Vin preetee bhagat na hova-ee: without love there is no devotion. The dhaadhee, the wandering singer, closes by asking for santokh, contentment, with humble, empty hands.

A Question to Sit With

What would a contented heart feel like for you?
